Am Abend des 18.08.2007 habe ich mein neues .mac eingerichtet. Nur 3 Tage später begann der Müll: 25 Spammails in nur 17 Tagen, und dabei habe ich die neue E-Mail-Adresse niemanden mitgeteilt. Für iChat verwende ich nämlich Kennung von meinem alten .mac-Account.

In the evening of the August, the 18th, I start using .mac. Only 3 days later I got the first spam mail. In only 17 days I received 25 spam mails. But the new e-mail address of mac is secret! I never told it to anyone. To use iChat, I am using my old .mac e-mail address.

Spam-Mails vermeiden

Es gibt einen ganz einfachen Trick sein Mail-Postfach spamfrei zu halten:

Erstens achtet man darauf, dass nirgends(!) auf keiner Homepage die E-Mail-Adresse in Klartext erscheint. Homepages werden systematisch von Programmen nach E-Mail-Adressen durchkämmt. Die Programme suchen dabei nach dem @-Zeichen und prüfen dann anschließend, ob hinter dem @ eine formrichtige Domain steht und die Zeichen vor dem @ ebenfalls der Form genügen.

Zweitens man vermeidet E-Mail-Adressen mit Standard-Namen wie mail@…, webmaster@… oder info@… usw. Denn wenn den Spammern eine Domain bekannt ist, dann setzen sie einfach die Standard-Namen vor die Domain und senden Spam.

Nun, das habe ich bei allen meinen E-Mail-Adressen beachtet und bekomme schon seit 2 Jahren keine Spam-Mail mehr. Nur bei meinem alten .mac-Account hatte ich den iChat-Namen, welcher identisch mit der E-Mail-Adresse von .mac ist, auf einer gut frequentierten Seite, einem Forum in meinem Profil angegeben. Leider war der iChat-Name in Klartext zu lesen und so füllte sich mein altes .mac-Postfach mit hunderten Spam-Mails die Woche. Nutzen konnte man das Postfach eh’ nicht mehr.


Neuer .mac-Account

Nun lief mein alter .mac-Account aus und ich ließ ihn auslaufen. Ich wollte mir einen neuen .mac-Account zulegen, aber meinen alten iChat-Account weiter nutzen. Die neue E-Mail-Adresse wollte ich geheim halten und nur für die Kommunikation mit Apple nutzen. Für alles Andere habe ich genug andere E-Mail-Adressen unter meinen verschiedenen Domains.

Am 18.08.2007 kaufte ich bei Gravis ein .mac-Paket und richtete es am gleichen Abend ein. Ich probierte gleich die Web-Galerie aus und spielte mit den so genannten Gruppen. Doch schon nach 3 Tagen bekam ich die erste Spam-Mail. Wie kann das angehen? Wenn ich nach meinem neuen Account google, dann ist das Suchergebnis genau Null! Woher haben die Spammer meine E-Mail-Adresse? Und warum tut Apple nichts dagegen?

Wenn Sie .ac nutzen wollen,dann verwenden Sie auf keinen Fall den E-Mail-Account von .mac, es sei denn, Sie möchten Tonnen an Spam-Mail bekommen!


Update: Es scheint so zu sein, dass die Spammer beliebige Namens-Kombinationen an Domains großer bekannter Anbieter senden, und infolge dessen zwangsläufig auch Spam im eigenen Postfach landet.

Wichtig ist nur, dass man diese Mails nicht lesen darf, bzw. nur dann lesen darf, wenn sie in „Mail“ als Spam markiert sind. Diese Maßnahme verhindert, dass verlinkte Bilder nachgeladen werden und der Absender so erkennen kann, dass die Mail geöffnet wurde.

To Avoid Spam

There is an easy trick to avoid spam:

The first thing is to take care not to publish the e-mail address in a readable form on any web page in the net. There are little programs, wich are searching for @ signs on web pages. When an @ sign is found, the program will test it wether this is a valid e-mail address.

The second thing is to avoid standard e-mail names like mail@…, webmaster@… or info@… etc. These programs will take known domains and add standard names to this domains. Then they start with spam sending.

So, I took care to this aspect on all my e-mail addresses and did not receive any spam mail on all my other e-mail accounts. But the mail address of my old .mac account, wich is also the iChat name, I have posted it in a forum which was frequently visited. So my e-mail address was readable clearly on this forum and my e-mail folder began to fill with tons of spam. This account got unusable for mails.


The new .mac account

My old .mac account expired and I was doing nothing against this. Later I got a new .mac account, but was continuing using may old iChat name. The new .mac e-Mail address I was keeping secret to avoid new spam. I’m using enough e-mail addresses under my other domains.

On August, the 18th, I startet to use the new account. First I played a while with the new functionality of the new .mac and was testing the new gallery. But only 3 days later I received my first spam mail. How could this be? When I use google to search for my new account, the result is exactly zero! From where did the spam sender took my new e-mail address? And why is Apple doing nothing?

If You will not get tons of spam mails, You should not use .macs e-mail!


Update: It looks like this, that the spam sender places random names before the @ sign to try to reach most accounts of a provider.

But if this is true, then it‘s very important not to open this kind of mails! Some times there are linked pictures placed in the mail. If You open this kind of mail, the mail client loads the picture from the server to show it to you and to tell the spam sender about this. In Apples Mail You can flag the mail as spam before opening. That prevents the loading of pictures from server.
